Kilgore Trout T-Shirt
Kilgore "Catfish" Trout, the Bermuda-born catcher for National Puncs, is in the unusual position of telling his creatorthe team's pitcher, Kurt Vonnegutwhat to do.
While it's unusual to find an author and his character as teammates in the league, Vonnegut offered a good insight into why the arrangement works in this case: "Trout's the only catcher I've ever pitched to who has enough imagination to suspect that he might be the creation of another human being. He had spoken of this possibility several times to his parakeet." Whether it's despite or because of this unusual pitcher-commanding-the-catcher-commanding-the-pitcher dynamic, the two have grumpily, curmudgeonly become one of the game's great twosomes.
Trout flailed in near-complete obscurity for most of his career, playing for a number of single A leagues, until finally scouted by an eccentric, deranged Pontiac dealer from Midland City, who happened upon a YouTube clip of Trout dropping a pop-up. Their encounter did not go as planned, but, Trout's career careened skyward from there.
So it goes.
